Invest your time (and sense of timing) in what you can get to without a sled, then if you hit the jackpot, or decide to work extra hard for a while, get a sled. Of course like you say, then you have to learn how to ride and take care of a sled, pay for lots of gas, and try not to die on it too so, however much you want to complicate things I guess. Being a dirtbag like myself, I still have lots to explore without a sled and don’t feel like giving up a season mountain biking yet in order to afford one.
