Interesting, Zach. Sounds like a day of playing with multiple beacons and electronic devices is in order.

I did play around with putting an iphone on top of a transmitting beacon, and the searcher would get some wonky readings around 1-1.5m (beacon readings). The iphone was miles away from getting reception, too. Never tried with a 2way, so who knows. Beacons do weird things, they are just electronics right?

Patroller’s radios are certainly less than 30 cm from their beacon when they’re running control routes, no? I’ve been with patrollers running their routes and they don’t turn their radios off.

I may be wrong, but it’s my understanding that electronic devices interfere with the receiving beacon, not the transmitting one.
