Once past Storm Pass, the area is extremely remote. The trails are often overgrown and occasionally disappear altogether and signage is minimal and often vague. Good map skills are necessary. I passed over the Middle/South Baldy Pass and traveled under Middle Baldy. I saw only one person after the trail to Storm Pass. If you’re interested here is my trip report that gives you a good look at the interior of this little visited wilderness. http://tomcatoutdoors.blogspot.com/2018/07/backpacking-west-elk-wilderness.html

Hi Mallory,

Distances vary depending on your exact route – which will vary with everyone because there is not a trail for this hike. We also chose a fairly arbitrary point to turn around based on storms. That being said, we hiked nearly 13 miles round trip.
