Thanks Frank. Still just looking around, but I’ve always wondered about this range for spring, and have only done one crappy-weather in the Crestones. But with the Sierra getting so much snow, its hard to look elsewhere for May, but Sangres is one place I’d go if the conditions were right. Seems like south to north might be better. I’ll let you know if I go. Peace.

A Sangres traverse would be so cool! Last year was a great year in the Sangres- it was a big base, not just new snow. So I would not expect to find coverage like you see in these photos. It’s all about upslopes there, and I’m not sure if they’ve had any yet. Let us know what you find if you go for it!

I appreciate the many beta shots in this report. I’m contemplating options for early May traverses, and google earth only gives a hint as to snow coverage. I don’t remember last year’s snowpack at that time. Was it an extra big base or just recent storm snow you found?

In reply to Ben. Thanks Ben! The Sangres are so perfectly suited for skiing in terms of topography. All it takes is some snow.

Nice! Looks like a really fun line in an area that doesn’t get visited on skis too often. Great to see the Sangres have some snow too 🙂
