I still consider myself a novice, but having a mentor is incredibly important when it comes to backcountry. I’ve learned more from the handful of days with him than I did in the entire course. Second, backcountry skiing does in fact change you and I enjoy the time immensely in the wilderness but it has also made me appreciate the days I get lift-served skiing in that much more.
