My favorite “college bowl” experience was around 15 years ago. A skier had a shovel with him, which isn’t particularly interesting. What was interesting was that it was a typical garden shovel with a 5′ handle. Which meant that this skier had around 3′ of wooden shovel handle sticking out above his head. But at least he had a shovel!

Thanks for sharing Brittany! It sounds like your casual mentorship may help steer this group in a good direction.
Back when I was a Western student, I had accepted an invite to join 6 friends on Cumberland Pass for a day of sled-access skiing. In the end I bailed to deal with an upcoming O-Chem test. Monday morning during my test, two of my buddies weren’t there to take the test. Later we learned they died along with one other person at Cumberland Pass that Sunday afternoon. Hopefully this college crew can take your suggestions and gain an introduction to the backcountry without learning the hard way.

Saw at least pieces of this. We were some of the dummies that used sleds. My friend gave the snowshoer a ride back to their car. Good write up. Glad things turned out okay
